Bhagavad Gita Chapter 9 – Raj Vidya Raj Guhya Yoga (The King of Knowledge and Secrets)

Introduction:

Chapter 9 of the Bhagavad Gita is considered one of the most important chapters where the speaker—Kaal Brahm—attempts to reveal the highest spiritual knowledge (Raj Vidya) and the most secret truth (Raj Guhya). Yet, despite claiming this, Kaal subtly accepts that he is not Supreme, and cannot grant liberation. He also explains how those who worship demigods do not attain the Supreme God.

This chapter contains the hidden key to understanding the importance of a Tatvadarshi Saint, who alone can reveal complete spiritual knowledge (Tatvagyan).

Chapter 9 Summary in Simple English:

  • Kaal (the speaker) claims that he is giving the king of knowledge and secrets.
  • He emphasizes devotion to him and criticizes those who worship demigods.
  • He indirectly admits that those who worship him still remain trapped in the cycle of birth and death.
  • He acknowledges that only those with unshakable faith in the Supreme Path can attain true salvation.
  • Worship of Ghosts, manes, ancestors is prohibited.
  • Finally, he commands Arjun in 9.34 to bow to him and promises that Arjun will attain him.

Important Verses from Chapter 9:

9.3 – “Those who do not have faith in this dharma do not attain Me and return to the path of death and rebirth.” This verse shows that faith is not enough, unless one follows the correct knowledge-based devotion.

9.23 – “Those who are devotees of other gods, and worship them with faith, they too actually worship Me, but in an improper way.”

✔️ This confirms that all worship of gods like Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva ultimately goes to Kaal (because he operates creation), but it is not accepted in the correct form, and therefore does not grant liberation.

9.25 – “Worshippers of gods go to gods; worshippers of ancestors go to ancestors; worshippers of ghosts go to ghosts; but those who worship Me attain Me.”

Here Kaal is emphasising that worship of ghosts, manes, ancestors is prohibited. He asks Arjun to engage in his worship. However, in Gita 8.16, Kaal has already admitted that attaining him doesn’t lead to liberation. So, attaining Kaal = remaining in rebirth.

9.34 – “Engage your mind in Me, be devoted to Me, sacrifice for Me, bow to Me. You will come to Me; I promise.”

Here, Kaal clearly commands Arjun to bow to him (worship through reverence) and promises that Arjun will come to him.

But here lies a critical revelation.

⚖️ Comparison: Gita 9.34 vs 4.34

Let’s contrast this with Gita 4.34:

4.34 – “Prostrate before Tatvadarshi Saints, render service, and ask them questions humbly. They will impart you the knowledge of the Supreme (Tatvagyan).”

Here, Kaal instructs to prostrate completely (by laying one’s body flat on the floor) before the Tatvadarshi Saint, not himself.

This implies:

  • For Kaal, normal bowing is enough.
  • But for a Tatvadarshi Saint, full prostration is necessary — indicating greater reverence.
  • More importantly, only the Tatvadarshi Saint can give the true knowledge of the Supreme God, not Kaal.

Key Insight: This reveals that Kaal himself acknowledges the superiority of the Tatvadarshi Saint over himself when it comes to attaining complete knowledge and salvation.

Key Teachings from Chapter 9:

  • Devotion to Kaal leads only to temporary results, not moksha.
  • Worshipping demigods like Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva is forbidden, and such worship ultimately goes to Kaal (9.23).
  • Worship of Ghosts, manes, ancestors worship is prohibited (9.25).
  • True knowledge and salvation cannot be received from Kaal, but only from a Tatvadarshi Saint (4.34).
  • Supreme God is someone else, beyond Kaal and beyond the three gunas (Brahma, Vishnu, Shiv) mentioned in 7.12–15.

Tatvagyan Insight (Based on Teachings of Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj):

According to Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj, Gita Chapter 9 reveals the spiritual fraud being committed under the garb of devotion.

  • Kaal Brahm seeks worship but cannot provide salvation.
  • The true Supreme God is Param Akshar Brahm, who is beyond Kaal’s realm.
  • The only way to attain Him is to find and surrender to a Tatvadarshi Saint, who alone has complete spiritual knowledge and the true salvation mantra (Om Tat Sat), as per Gita 17.23.

Thus, 9.34 is a distraction, while 4.34 is the real gateway to truth and liberation.

️ FAQs:

Q1: What is Raj Vidya Raj Guhya Yoga? A1: It is the supreme spiritual knowledge and the most confidential truth explained in Gita Chapter 9, revealing that devotion to Kaal is inferior to worshipping the Supreme God through Tatvadarshi Saints.

Q2: What does Gita 9.34 mean? A2: Kaal tells Arjun to worship and bow to him. However, this only leads to Kaal, who is not the Supreme. Liberation lies beyond him.

Q3: Why is Gita 4.34 more important than 9.34? A3: In 4.34, Kaal advises surrendering fully to a Tatvadarshi Saint, suggesting that real salvation can only be attained through the knowledge given by such a Saint — not through Kaal’s own worship.

Q4: Who is the Tatvadarshi Saint today? A4: As per scriptural evidence and spiritual experience, Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj is the present Tatvadarshi Saint, authorized to give the true salvation mantra of Om Tat Sat.
